SSPCA visit

Yesterday we were very lucky to be visited by a lady from the SSPCA (The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) She gave talks to the children about what her job involves and how she began working there. We learned about some of the awful ways people treat their own pets and wild animals. We were all shocked to see that not everybody is as caring towards animals as we are here in Rosewell Primary. Some of us had fun playing a ‘Guess the Animal’ card game which helped us to learn lots of new facts about different creatures. She told us about the helpline you can call if you see any animal in trouble – 03000 999 999 - and even gave us a lovely sticker and pencil. We would like to say a huge thank you the the SSPCA for a really interesting session.

Primary 3/4/5 Nurseries

As part of our Health topic, p3/4/5 have been learning about the tasks required to look after a baby. We thought carefully about the rights of a baby, and the responsibilities of a parent or carer. Then, we thought about the things a baby requires to have all needs met. The children created their very own nurseries, full of the equipment and materials needed for a healthy, happy baby. An excellent effort was made by all – what a creative bunch!

Primary 5/6/7 Greek Myth Writing

As part of their study of the history of the Olympics, p5/6/7 have been learning about Ancient Greece. They have learned the Greek alphabet, created their own mythical creatures and written these fantastic Greek Myths using lots of exciting and interesting vocabulary. Excellent imagination!

Primary 2/3 on GLOW!

Primary 2/3 now have their own Glow group! They are still getting used to it and should try to log on as much as possible to see what Miss Milne has posted. There are photographs, discussions and websites to try already. Have fun!

Primary 1 Writing

As part of our Health topic, Primary 1 had a busy day where they brought in a doll or teddy and were responsible for looking after it all day. This helped the children to learn about some of the tasks required to look after a baby. Not an easy job! The following day, the children wrote about their day, using the word ‘yesterday’ as the opener. The writing is brilliant – try to have a look outside the classroom!

Primary 2/3 Baby Mobiles

Primary 2/3 have been learning about the ways in which a baby grows and develops, and how parents and carers can help. They designed fantastic bright, colourful mobiles using a variety of materials from home. The children thought carefully about how to develop hand-eye co-ordination. Very creative – well done!

Maths and Numeracy learning in Nursery

In the Nursery, the children have been learning about calendars. This is a really important part of Maths and Numeracy. They have made calendars of their own, designed with pictures and the correct layout. Some children have written the days of the week too. What a lot of hard work!

Sport Relief Mile

Thank you very much for your support with our ‘Sport Relief Mile’ event yesterday. It was a lovely day to go out walking and we have raised over £90 for Sport Relief! Thanks again to the parents who gave up their time to accompany us on our walk. The children had lots of fun walking, and so did our Olympic mascots – Wenlock and Mandeville!

Olympic hopeful visits Rosewell Primary!

Rosewell Primary School were very lucky to have an exciting visit from Callum Skinner – a Scottish cylist who is hoping to reach the London 2012 Olympics. He told us about what he has achieved so far in his career as a cyclist. He showed us his special (very expensive!) bike, shoes and helmet. We even got to try the helmet on! Callum also told us about the training he must do 6 days a week and how important it is to have a healthy diet to keep his energy levels high.

After this, we all went outside for some photographs with Callum. Many children brought in their bikes. He even tried out some of the childrens bikes too!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Callum for taking the time to come and visit us. He has given us all some inspiration and advice for becoming an athlete. We would also like to wish him Good Luck for London 2012! Perhaps we will see a Rosewell pupil competing in the Olympics in a few years time?

Easter Service and Daffodil Tea 27.3.12

On Tuesday 27th March our Easter Service will take place at Rosewell Parish Church at 10:30am. Parents, family and friends are welcome to join us for the service.

Later on in the day, back at Rosewell Primary School, our Daffodil Tea begins at 1:30pm. Our Primary Seven children have been working very hard to organise this. The entry fee will be £1 (including a cup of tea and a hot cross bun!) There will be a range of stalls including crafts, raffle and quality Bric a Brac!
